Skin Cancer Screenings Go Mobile

As we move into the warmer months of spring and summer, older adults may be spending more time outside. That means it’s time to start thinking about protecting them from too much sun exposure, which can lead to skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most frequently diagnosed form of cancer in the United States. One way to protect your loved one from skin cancer is to make certain they have a regular screening. Since May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, it’s a good time to schedule that exam. The good news is that if you live in certain areas, your aging relative may be able to get their screening for free.

People are more likely to be diagnosed with skin cancer as they age. However, when skin cancer is caught early, it is nearly always curable. All people should be checked for skin cancer at least once per year. If they are at a higher risk, experts recommend being screened every six months. Check with your aging relative’s doctor to find out how often they should be professional screened.
The Skin Cancer Foundation has started a program to bring skin cancer education and free screenings to people across the country through the use of a mobile exam room. The effort is called Destination: Healthy Skin. They will stop in 15 cities across the nation. The schedule is:
